I was encouraging out awesome welcome team at Turning Point Church this past Sunday. I was reading this past week in 1 Samuel when Samuel anoints David in chapter 16 in verse 7, The Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” And then David goes on to take on Goliath but before he does he meets with Saul and in 1 Samuel 17:33, Saul says to David, “you are only a boy, and he has been fighting man from his youth.”

It is very true that God does not look at our outward appearance however what I was taking out of these verses might be a little controversial in saying that man does look at the outward appearance. So as the church and the volunteers in the church we need to make sure we are keeping things clean, if you see a piece of trash in the parking lot, or on the floor let’s make sure to pick it up. If there is water on the sink in the bathroom lets wipe it down.

The true fact is that yes God does see our heart but on Sundays when we are seeing anywhere from 10-30 visitors seeing our church for the first time we need to make a good impression. It is said that people make a decision in the first five minutes of their church experience whether they will come back or not. So let’s make a good impression.
