Bathtub...Monsoo

So my wife and I go on a date day on Friday and after dropping the kids off at school and going to Starbucks for a coffee and breakfast, I take her to get pedicures. We get right in and we are able to sit next to each other on those amazing chairs that massage you the entire time you are getting a pedicure. I really think that the chair alone is worth the $15 dollars it cost for the pedicure. I start reading my book called “Believe that you can” by Jentzen Franklin and Stacey starts looking at her IKEA catalog. The women doing our pedicures are extremely nice however don’t speak too much English. The girl doing Stacey’s pedicure whispers to her is he—pointing to me—a pastor? And Stacey briefly explains yes he is a connections pastor for our church.

So they continue to talk to all the other women in the shop in Vietnamese kind of making us feel a little awkward, if you know what I mean? But anyway we don’t mind because it is a Christian environment and all the women there are Christians. They even give a discount for those in the full time ministry.

So she finishes my pedicure and as I get up she says to me in broken English, “Bathtub” in Vietnamese is “Mon-soo.” I am thinking WHAT? I look back at Stacey like can you translate and she just nods not helping at all. She says it again “Bathtub” and now you say it in Vietnamese “Mon-soo.” I once look back at Stacey with a “do I really have to say this look” and she again just nods and gives me the ok. I say yes “Bathtub…Monsoo”. Just thinking like maybe she was just saying the thing I just put my feet in was a Bathtub. I awkwardly try to dismiss myself up to the front of the store exiting from the conversation while she finishes up Stacey.

2 hours later in the car---Stacey said, I think she was saying….”Pastor” not bathtub? I start cracking up and going OK that makes more sense. So even if you don’t know what is being said to you, you might want to do a little more digging into find out exactly what you are being told.

I learned from this lesson—If I don’t understand what they are saying, then just ask until you find out. Don’t be embarrassed to ask.

Have you ever had something like this happen to you?
